not a few / only a few
not a few と only a fewはまったく異なる意味を表すので、注意が必要である。
not a few は「多数」（＝ a good many）
only a few は「ごく少数 」（＝ very few）
Not a few houses were burnt to ashes. （相当多数の家屋が灰に帰した。）
Only a few sailors agreed to his plan. （ごく少数の船員しか彼の計画に同意しなかった。)
